The 20 Chinese Yuan Renminbi note is a denomination of Chinese currency. A Chinese communist revolutionary, politician and socio-political theorist Mao Zedong commonly referred to as Chairman Mao (December 26, 1893 – September 9, 1976) and a Lotus flower are currently featured on the obverse of the note. On the reverse of the banknote is an image of a fisherman on his bamboo raft floating down the Li River through the Karst mountains of Guilin. There is no difference in the basic color and design between the banknotes of the 2005 and 2019 editions of the fifth series of The 20 Chinese Yuan/Renminbi note. The following security features are added/changed in the 2019 edition of 20 Yuan note:

  1. Dated 2019
  2. The main "20" is printed with color-changing ink
  3. Added an optical-variable security thread
  4. Added new embossed areas such as Mao's shoulder and forehead
  5. Removal of the latent image at the front of the note
  6. New see-through register
  7. Removal of the raised print touch lines
  8. Serial number is repeated on the right of the bill

1. The large “20” color-shifting ink

The large “20” in the center of the note is printed in gold, and the numbers turn green when the note is tilted.

2. Lotus watermark

Hold the note to light and look for the watermark, similar to the lotus flower. The watermark is part of the paper itself and can be seen from both sides of the note.

3. See-through register

When held up to the light, front and back elements combines perfectly.

Tilt the note to see the numeral 20 in the right of the note shift from pink to green.

5. White denomination watermark

6. Intaglio printing

Special printing makes the ink feel raised in some areas of the note.

7. Portrait of Chairman Mao

Some parts of portrait of Chairman Mao are made by intaglio printing and feels raised when running your finger over it or scratch it gently with your fingernail.

Symbols for visually handicapped are applied by intaglio printing on the obverse side lower right corner of the 20 Chinese yuan renminbi note.

9. Serial number

The two-colored serial number at the lower left corner has four red and six black characters. The same blue-colored, but vertical number is repeated on the right of the bill.

10. Year of issue

Year of issue appears on the reverse of the banknote.
