The Australian 50 dollar note is a denomination of Australian currency. The new fifty-dollar polymer banknote was issued on 18 October 2018 and depicts the same historical characters that it has since 1995. A portrait of Indigenous Australian, a preacher, inventor and author David Unaipon (born David Ngunaitponi) is featured on the obverse of the note, while an Australian social reformer who worked for the rights and welfare of women and children Edith Dircksey Cowan is featured on the reverse. Each denomination in the new series of Australian dollar banknotes will feature a different species of Australian wattle and a native bird within a number of the security features. On the 50 dollar banknote, these are the Acacia humifusa and the Black Swan.
